NORC at the University of Chicago Senior Vice President Kennon Copeland Appointed an American Statistical Association Fellow

Press Release

4/16/2015, Bethesda, MD. – Kennon R. Copeland has been named a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA). The ASA is the nation’s preeminent professional statistical society. Copeland has more than 35 years of experience in sample design, weighting methods, and error measurement methods for large-scale household, establishment, and healthcare surveys.

According to the ASA, Copeland was honored for outstanding contributions and sustained collaboration involving statistical methods in health and labor force statistics; outstanding mentoring of junior researchers to become leaders in statistics; and for outstanding administration of statistical activities over an extended period of time.

“This recognition is well-deserved in light of Ken’s work and contributions. We congratulate him on being named an ASA Fellow,” said Dan Gaylin, president and CEO of NORC at the University of Chicago.

Copeland will be awarded a certificate at a ceremony on August 11 at the annual Joint Statistical Meetings in Seattle. “It is a tremendous honor to be selected as an ASA Fellow, joining so many other leading statistical practitioners and thought leaders,” said Copeland. “I am very fortunate that such a prestigious organization recognizes the value of my work and contributions. I could not have received this honor without help from colleagues and peers throughout the survey and statistical community, especially my colleagues at NORC.”

According to the ASA, “The designation of ASA Fellow has been a significant honor for nearly 100 years. Under ASA bylaws, the Committee on Fellows can elect up to one-third of one percent of the total membership as fellows each year. Individuals are nominated by their peers in the association membership. To be honored, nominees must have an established reputation and have made outstanding contributions in statistical science.”

“This recognition is well-deserved in light of Ken’s work and contributions. We congratulate him on being named an ASA Fellow.”
