Press Release

CHICAGO, Feb. 14, 2017--Don Jang, vice president and director of NORC at the University of Chicago’s Center for Excellence in Survey Research (CESR), has been elected president of the Korean International Statistical Society (KISS). His two-year term begins in 2019. Until that time, he will serve as president-elect. KISS is a nonprofit corporation that describes its mission as promoting “the theory and applications of statistical disciplines through scholarly activities, including publication of journals in statistics and probability, scientific meetings, and other educational programs.”

“The Korean International Statistical Association is a major international organization working hard to advance research and application in the field of statistical science,” said Jang. “I am honored to be selected as its president.”

As president, Jang will be responsible for working with his colleagues in the organization to set its strategic vision, organize the committee structure needed to carry it out, and preside at all KISS meetings. KISS will be one of the 10 organizations hosting the Joint Statistical Meetings to be held late this summer in Baltimore, MD.

At NORC, Jang is responsible for all staff and operations of CESR and for leading NORC’s data analytics team. He joined NORC in 2016, bringing to his work over 20 years’ experience in managing and directing large-scale, national, federal statistical projects and methodological research associated with federal statistics programs.  He will continue in his present position at NORC while serving as president of KISS.
