Press Release

CHICAGO, Oct. 28, 2021 — NORC at the University of Chicago is delighted to name Vivek Mehta, a recognized expert and thought leader in information technology, as the new Chief Information Security Officer for the Information Technology department.

As head of NORC’s information security team, Mehta will ensure NORC’s continued excellence in the areas of compliance, operations, and privacy. He will support the ongoing innovation of the IT department by identifying and managing risk reports, developing short- and long-term strategies that support operations of information security, and spearheading business development.

“Vivek will make sure that all our systems and processes adhere to the highest security standards, for the safety of our clients and our organization,” said Ron Jurek, executive vice president and Chief Information Officer. “His experience in business development, specific expertise in driving infrastructure operations and developing innovative digital products, and focus on human-centered design have made him a defining thought leader in information technology.”

Before joining NORC, Mehta served as the Chief Information and Innovation Officer at the Sinai Health System. He has held several senior executive roles in the health care and financial services sectors – including Ascension Health, U.S. Bancorp, and Mastercard Worldwide – where he oversaw information systems, infrastructure management, technology and cybersecurity operations, strategic planning and road mapping, and enterprise architecture and risk management.

“Hackers and cyberoperations pose an increasingly dire threat to data privacy, making information security more crucial at this time than ever before,” said Mehta. “I am eager to bring my expertise to an organization with a longstanding track record as a leader in information security and continue its safeguarding of client and organization data.”

Mehta will guide NORC’s compliance to state and federal legislation while collaborating across all IT teams on effective designs, processes, and procedures to sufficiently protect NORC’s digital assets. His work with different research departments will offer emerging technology solutions relating to the secure collection, processing, and storing of sensitive information.

Mehta earned a master’s of Business Administration at the University of Chicago and attended the Harvard Business School program for Business Innovations in Global Health Care.

“Vivek will make sure that all our systems and processes adhere to the highest security standards, for the safety of our clients and our organization.”
