Daily Crime Data from 50+ Large American Cities

Interactive

A screenshot of an online dashboard titled Daily Crime Comparison. The date selected is August 13, 2024, the offense selected is aggravated assault, and the city selected is Kansas City, Missouri. A bar chart below shows the data from the selected prompts of reported aggravated assault in Kansas City, Missouri. Users can compare cities by crime counts, crime rates, and city size, click on the column labels to sort, and hover or tap on bars for details. The first column of the chart shows the count of aggravated assaults on that day in each city in the Live Crime Tracker. The second column shows the corresponding rate per 100,000 residents, and the last column shows each city’s population.

The Live Crime Tracker is a website that offers in-depth information on crime, violence, and victimization in more than 50 cities across the United States.

Official national crime statistics are reported many months after the fact, making it difficult to recognize and respond to emergent trends.

To address this issue, NORC’s Center on Public Safety & Justice developed the Live Crime Tracker. The website tracks crime trends in real time, giving law enforcement agencies, public officials, and community organizations time to respond more effectively.

The tracker provides real-time data on crime, violence, and victimization in more than 50 U.S. cities. Users can explore data for eight crime categories, including homicide, burglary, and aggravated assault; city crime profiles and interactive maps for easy analysis and comparison; and a daily crime tracker to monitor trends over time.
