Press Release

CHICAGO, July 11, 2018 — Caroline F. Pearson, a nationally recognized expert in health care policy and widely known for her capacity to communicate how policy changes will impact individuals and businesses, has been named a senior fellow at NORC at the University of Chicago.

In this role, she will generate insights for a diverse set of stakeholders by applying NORC’s rigorous analytics and research capabilities, innovative solutions, and deep subject-matter expertise to critical topics in health care. Pearson will collaborate with NORC’s entire health care research team across a full spectrum of work in policy, program evaluation, and public health, with particular emphasis on her core expertise in Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and health system change. She will also work closely with NORC Labs, the innovation hub of NORC that fosters the creation and introduction of new products and services.

“Caroline Pearson brings to her work a broad understanding of today’s top health care questions, the skills to conduct in-depth analysis on those issues, and a unique ability to concisely convey those insights to the audiences who need them most,” said Dan Gaylin, president and chief executive officer of NORC. “Throughout her career, she has provided data-driven analysis and strategic advice for Fortune 500 companies across the health care industry. She has also emphasized the importance of disseminating research findings with clear, compelling communications to get meaningful data into the hands of decision-makers and the general public. We are delighted she has joined NORC for the next phase of her accomplished career.”

Pearson joins NORC from a position as senior vice president of policy and strategy at Avalere Health, where she held key responsibilities in functional areas that included policy, strategic communications, financial services, and public relations. She was co-leader of the executive management team overseeing all business operations and was lead media spokesperson on a range of health care issues, appearing regularly on national TV and in print media.

“My work on health care issues has always been grounded in data and analysis,” said Pearson. “It is vital that policymakers, health care companies, and patients have the best possible information to inform their decisions. I am thrilled to join the team at NORC, which is leading the industry at generating and analyzing that data.”

Pearson is a frequent keynote speaker and has written many articles on topics relating to the structure of the nation’s health care system, the ways in which it is provided, and the underlying issues that are driving change in the system. She is a member of the Board of Directors of SummaCare, a provider-sponsored health plan, and is a graduate of Harvard University.
