Problem

College students’ mental health needs have evolved, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The college student population has grown and become more diverse over time, with needs continuing to evolve. Most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic left a greater number of students struggling with their mental health and led to an increased need for services, resources, and supports. Programs like the JED Foundation’s JED Campus have to adapt to changing needs so they are best positioned to support the mental well-being of college students.

Solution

NORC provided a comprehensive assessment of JED Campus implementation and current best practices.

The JED Foundation partnered with NORC to evaluate the evidence behind the JED Campus Comprehensive Approach and to assess their method of implementation and performance monitoring. Guided by a literature review, document review, and focus groups and key informant interviews with program participants and staff, NORC produced written recommendations to support adaptation and maintenance of JED Campus and the Comprehensive Approach.

Result

Our findings will help the JED Foundation adapt the Campus program to current needs.

The JED Foundation will use results and recommendations from this project to revise the Comprehensive Approach to reflect the most recent research and to adapt their method of implementation and performance monitoring to meet the evolving needs of college students and campuses across the country.
