NORC Has Selected Eight New Scholars to Conduct Research on Racial Equity and Inclusion

CHICAGO, November 18, 2021 – NORC at the University of Chicago has selected eight scholars for the inaugural NORC Racial Equity and Inclusion Scholars (REI) Program. Four are from outside of the organization and four from inside NORC. These REI scholars will conduct research on diversity, disparities, equity, and inclusion. As part of the program, the awardees will work on a secondary data analysis project under the supervision of NORC expert staff, build skills, and participate in a robust set of mentoring and career networking activities.

They will advance their research skills and examine timely, policy-relevant questions on diversity, disparities, equity, and inclusion issues to help inform programs, policies, and services that promote the social and economic well-being of diverse populations” said Michael López, Vice President in the Education and Child Development department at NORC. “NORC is deeply committed to supporting the next generation of diverse researchers with mentorship from leading scholars in the field.”

“We are excited to collaborate with these remarkable scholars,” said Rebecca Berger, Research Scientist in the Education and Child Development department at NORC at the University of Chicago. “They proposed timely, relevant studies that will inform our collective understanding of racial/ethnic minority group strengths and structural disparities in education, workforce, and criminal justice systems in the U.S.” This program is running from early October through December 2021 for the external scholars and through June 2022 for the internal scholar.
