SPACE City Panel
Challenge
Houston policymakers, researchers, and organizations needed a way to track the views, challenges, and opinions of Houston area residents.
Stakeholders in Houston needed accurate and reliable data to ensure that programs and policies respond to resident needs and priorities. They also needed a mechanism to better investigate the long-term economic, social, and behavioral dynamics of the Houston region.
Through the University of Houston, local and national experts were convened to discuss and develop a resource where all Houston area residents’ opinions are voiced, captured, and disseminated on important issues facing the city.
Solution
NORC designed the SPACE City Panel to collect data on the opinions of Houstonians and share the data in usable ways.
The Survey on Public Attitudes and Community Engagement (SPACE) City Panel, designed and implemented by NORC, offers a scientifically rigorous, representative resource focusing on local concerns of Greater Houston area resident experiences, behaviors, and opinions on critical issues facing the city, providing timely understanding of community conditions and perspectives.
This panel will give a voice to city residents on a range of topics including:
- Health care
- Education
- Public safety
- Community development
- Immigration
- Jobs
- Politics
- Natural disasters
Result
SPACE City Panel data will help ensure that Houston residents’ needs and priorities inform local programs and policies.
The University of Houston will use the SPACE City Panel data to generate publicly available reports, providing city policymakers and local organizations with accurate, reliable, and timely information to help better respond to residents’ needs within the greater Houston area.
